I know you will think I’m NUTS but I would like to build a Defender size in 10mm. I own about 20 1911’s to include Mustangs, Defenders, Commander size and full size. I have 2 Delta Elites, one is NIB and a new Dan Wesson Razorback. I really enjoy shooting the 10 mm but the full size can get uncomfortable carrying it after a while. I don’t think anyone makes one but a defender size would be great. My question is: Is anyone aware Of the availability of parts to accomplish my desire to build a Defender size 10mm?

I have put together a CCO style 1911 that can be done in 10mm. I simply put a Commander slide on to a Detonics style frame. It works well. But my only issue, which should not be a problem for you, is that there aren’t any 10mm mags made for the Detonics sized frame. So, I have to use Colt Officer’s mags, which stick out about 1/4”.
I think that I would be leery of going shorter than a Commander sized slide, due to potential feeding issues.

Well, Fusion has Officer's and Defender barrels for sale on Ebay. I found them very helpful answering questions on the phone, maybe call and ask if they have any advice on a build?

I agree with Sailorman, Commander barrels and slides are available and are AFAIK less problematical than shorter 1911's.

Bill Wilson has said that the 10MM causes more problems than any other caliber in the 1911. Add in the fact that an officer size can be problematic, and I'd say you're asking for trouble. I like having some unusual stuff also but sometimes you're a whole lot better off sticking with what works!!!!!! Kimber has the Officer [Ultra} size in 45ACP or 9MM perfected. If a 45ACP won't do the trick you need a rifle!

Thanks. I like the 10mm barrels at Numrich. They have Full Size and Commander size. I have at least 2 of each, and they are very nice nice barrels. Pretty much drop in, and fit Rock and Para slides almost perfectly. They do need to be finish reamed though. Bore slugs at right around .4006'. They were at $79 for quite a while, but just recently went up to $102.
