What a night. A great dinner. Great wife. Great whiskey and a dash of 1911's to finish it off.

I offer you the main course of grilled ribeye and onion, roasted asparagus with onion and garlic clove, tomato slices with balsamic reduction and fresh merlot parmesan. Dessert is a taste session of two rye whiskeys with a side of stainless 1911's.

Too many Americans never develop an appreciation for tequila, because all they've ever had is Cuervo Gold. I favor Don Julio Blanco myself...
On the CA border, my choice is Patron Tequila.

Unfortunately due to the banking crisis and the tech bubble bursting I'm going to have to scale back my dinner plans tonight. Hopefully there's something good on TV.

 Dang dsk as an administrator of the forum. I figured that you had to be getting fees in the high six figure range at least. What is up with that?

There's an old joke, "ATF (alcohol, tobacco and firearms); just add chips to make it a party."
However, my policy is to enjoy my firearms first and then, second, after the guns have been put away, take out the alcohol and tobacco. Much safer this way.

Damn, I don’t know what makes my mouth water more, theraptur’s ribeye or bradsvette’s classy pistol in tribute to his USN service.

I’ve always been the type to forego culinary indulgence in favor of less flavor, especially after a costly firearm purchase, in which case it may be necessary to break out the wife’s fine China and go slumin until next payday.

Yea, it’s all about prioritization. :)

The Texas Republic……I got a fitted EGW bushing and plug. Changed the safety to left side only with an EGW HD model. Grip screws changed to the stainless straight head along with a new stainless pin kit. Greider short trigger. Stock extractor tuned to SteveinAllentown's specs. Small radius EGW fps and 14lb recoil spring. Stock sear and hammer tuned up, and frankly one of my better attempts. Trigger pull set to 4lbs.
Wait. The frame has a carved butt that doesn’t match the MSH…did you change that as well?

No that is the way it came. I wonder if the msh is thick enough to match it. I'm not afraid of metal and files.

I hope it is. Nice touch to a deserving pistol. Let us know if you do. Pics!

When I went off to College, early fall 1965, to far away Lincoln, Nebraska, I soon met a really nice girl, who invited me to spend a weekend at her family's home in Omaha. So did, and that night, she snitched a full bottle of her dad's Rum, and we sat out in her back yard, and drank the whole bottle. Then next day was a really long, bad day for me.

Because of that awful experience, I did not touch a sip of "booze" until about three years ago, not one sip of gin, bourbon, scotch, all those things, esp NO rum. Occasionally a beer or a little wine, but not one sip of booze for a half century.

A few years ago, on a Bourbon Trail experience with my wife, after the tour, decided to try a sip of Woodford's Bourbon, and decided it was nice. So, occasionally now, I will have a half shot of Bourbon, but have not tried any other hard alcohol drinks.

In retrospect, that awful Rum experience probably saved me money and other problems for a half century. As it were, that nice girl ended up marrying on of my fraternity bothers long ago. She sadly died young from Cancer.

All the best... NV

Thankfully, I've never developed a taste for bourbon. Lots of folks spending way too much money on that stuff these days. Whiskey is a stop-gap drink in an emergency, if there's nothing else more palatable around. The one exception, though, is Irish whiskey. They seem to know what they are doing and I can appreciate their efforts! As for tequila/mezcal...... no, thank you. I keep plenty of cleaning products under the sink if I ever get a craving for that kind of taste.

Now, a good rum or gin..... whole different story. Hell even a bad rum or gin is still a good rum or gin in the proper circumstances! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: (And I do mean bad as in 'terrible' and not as in 'cheap'. There's plenty of expensive booze out there that's quite horrible when you get down to it, and vice versa!)

The only thing in the air around here is snow! Winter unfortunately keeps putting a pause on grilling season.

It warned up a week ago, and was melting snow, but was back down to -16 this morning. Want to go out and shoot my Tisas 9mm, see if it will do better with the plated flat points I loaded last night, but my truck wouldn’t start this morning!

What? Not that it snows much here anymore where I'm living now, but when I've lived in snow country, nothing put a pause on grilling season. I'll shovel off the back deck and knock the snow off the grill before I'll shovel the front porch, sidewalk and plow the driveway.

I have a big 36" oilfield pipe reverse flow bbq pit - I just don't use it as often because it takes a lot of fuel to fire the big girl up!

That coal can roaring with a grill on top can make some massive grilling heat! I like to see 800f around there.

Check out these tomahawks I did for a river house weekend with a group of friends. We even cook the potatoes and onions in the coals. You can see some peaking out below the steaks.

And yeah nothing beats a grilled ribeye for me!
