Just wondering. From the picture it seems that the pad adds some lenght. Can the pad be taken off?

Sean,

According to a dealer I talked to and from examining a sample, I believe the Powermag's pads cannot be taken off other than for cleaning purposes.

The CMC Shooting Star and Match Grade mags with welded baseplates however can be used without their pads.
Even if the pad could be removed, it wouldn't fit flush. It protrudes a little out of the mag well. Do any 8 rounders fit flush without any pads?
The newer PM's have a detatchable base to facilitate cleaning.
I seriously doubt they'd be able to sit flush, as no other 10 rounders for a single stack will. But, that's one of the main reasons why I went to the CMC 10 rounders: that big base pad. It makes the mag much more appealing than, say, a Wilson hanging out of the magwell.
