Do you wear your seat belt?

Finally came up with a perfect answer to "Why do you carry a gun?" One of my NCO's asked why I felt the need to carry a gun. I asked if he buckled himself and his family in when they went somewhere in the car even if it was just down the street. He said yes. So I asked him why he felt the need to buckle up. Was he planning to cause a major accident? Was he going to drive recklessly? He said no, he buckles up as a safety precaution. And that he's not worried about his driving it's all those other crazies on the road. Needless to say I didn't have to say much after that.

Good comeback answer airborne - I'll remember this one!

I had to think about this when I first read it as well, and while it could be considered off-topic, I think that it addresses a topic that could be discussed in the Personal Defense & Carry section...

It does deal with a Carry issue.

I had considered it within the Legal & Political section, but the politics of why we carry is probably not appropriate...

I think Airborne raised a really good argument that would cause some to reconsider... I know there are others, and not the typical "It's my Right" drivel...

I have always used Drunk Drivers and Alcohol comparisons, spare tires, etc... This is probably one of the better ones I can remember.

I sincerely feel that educating those who do not understand the reasons we support Concealed Carry is important, it's better to educate than alienate.

Sure, use this at any given chance if you think it'll help. That's why I posted it. So far when I use it it seems to have a very positive result on the person and they view things just a bit differently.

Very good. And the very same "answer" that I've used for years. Even if it wasn't "the law", wouldn't you use your seat belt? Is it because you're worried that you will go out and slam into somebody? Naw, I'm worried about the "other" guy slamming into me...eh? Stay safe.

Great answer that is just what people need to hear when we are questioned. By the way my daughter and son in law are both in the 101st....
