What types of finishes do you prefer? I'm looking for a durable and highly rust-resistant finish. I'm not sure if I'm going to refinish my 1911, but the cylinder of my S&W airweight centennial (aluminum frame) needs a more durable finish. I carry it in a pocket holster, and my pockets are obviously a humid, salty environment. I've recently noticed rust on the outside of the cylinder and I have trouble keeping it away. First, does anyone have any advice on removing the rust with as little excess damage to the factory finish as possible? Second, how, where, with what, or by whom do you recommend I have the cylinder refinished for maximum corrosion resistance.

Thanks in advance!

For maximum corrosion resistance you should get the cylinder hard chrome plated by a reputable company. I have had good experience with Metaloy. You might also consider a Kydex pocket holster or if you prefer leather treat the side that sits against your body with Sno-Seal or some other quality leather waterproofer....Not the spray on stuff, most of those don't penetrate the leather well and don't last long. Hope this helps...
