Can anyone confirm whether the current Pointman series of guns come with a full length guide rod; more specifically the PM-45?
Thanks

I don't think DW has used full length guide rods in quite a while.

I saw a review on You Tube from a few years ago of the Pointman 45 and one of the comments was it had a full length guide rod. The gun they were reviewing was supposed to be NIB.
Think I will send in a question to DW/CZ.
The picture at their website, for the Pointman 45 at least, shows a GI recoil spring plug, which should indicate a GI length guide rod.

Those things go into the trash anyways.

Wow! I just noticed that I have been here for 20 years.

Spoke with Keith Lawton this morning. Keith said the only PM series gun to have a full length guide rod currently is the PM-7.
Thanks all for your input.

My PM-45 & PM-9 a few years old both have full length guide rods so assume a running change on new models other than PM-7.

All Pointmans have full-length guide rods from factory.

Not true Sir. See my post regarding a conversation with Keith Lawton from Dan Wesson. Further, I just picked up a PM-45, serial number 220xxx and no full length guide rod. However, I did purchase one from EGW and it is now in my PM-45.

Sort of depends on which Dan Wesson you are talking about. I have an early (Ser. No. below 200) Dan Wesson Pointman but it was made by Dan Wesson before they were purchased by CZ-USA I think.

It had a ramped barrel and it did come with a FLGR, but I changed that out as I do with any gun I might carry.

The frame, IMO, is one made by Jericho Foundry (or perhaps even sold by Chip McCormick).

Sorry for the quality of the pic - I'm not all that great at it.

Just for clarity, only the PM7 (in the Pointman series) comes with a full length Guide rod.

I think mostly all of the Serva era Govt guns came with a 1 or 2 piece FLGR.

Yes Sir, per Keith Lawton currently only the PM-7 is shipping with FLGR.

I did say 'mostly'. The minors may have been more GI style for cost savings and weren't around long so they are much less in number. All of my Govt PM Majors, PM Aussies, Patriots, Razorbacks, Pruitt's have a full length.

Took my new PM-9 to the range today. I have to say that of all the guns I have bought and shot over the past 50 years this is the first time I am adhering to the factory recommended breakin procedure. Usually I am taking straight out of the box to the range with no prior cleaning or lube. Hasn’t really been a problem for me. But, this time I’m toeing the line — nothing but FMJ and around 50 rounds then clean and lube. Actually, it was closer to 72 rounds with 115FMJ and 147FMJ. All trouble free, no malfunctions of any kind. POI was surprisingly 3-4 inches high at 7yds. Didn’t have a screwdriver with me but when I got home I moved the rear sight 1/4 turn clockwise. Couldn’t find information anywhere regarding calibration of rear sight so this is just a start. I’ll have a screwdriver with me on next trip to hopefully dial in more precisely. Also cleaned and lubed when I got home. Ready for my next 50 rounds or so.

I was pleased that there were no stoppages of any kind. I didn’t experience any of the failures of slide to return to battery that many have reported with the PM-9. Because of weight and 9mm it is a really soft shooter. It is softer than my Sig P226 in 9mm. Almost like shooting a .22, but then again I was shooting the PM-9 just after 100 rounds of 45ACP with my equally new S&W 1911SC E Series.

To be continued.

Oh, forgot to mention my PM-9 does NOT have a FLGR …thankfully.
Went back to the range today for the second session with my new PM-9. This time deviated from proscribed DW breakin by running a total of 124 rounds instead of 50: 50 rounds of BB 115FMJ, 50 rounds of BB 147FMJ, and 24 rounds of Underwood 124JHP (one of my favorite carry loads). I wanted to see how the pistol performed with 115 and 147 bullet weights. Seemed like my pistol preferred the 147 a little more than the 115. All, including the Underwood load, ran 100%. As for the sights, after my tweak of the rear sight, POI is on POA with a 6 o’clock hold at 7yds. No malfunctions of any kind. Next step is to clean and lube and get back out there for session three with mostly carry loads. I continue to be impressed at how soft the recoil is with this pistol. It may be just my imagination but seems like the slide returns somewhat slow. It doesn’t stick like some reviewers have commented - this slide runs super smooth. After more breakin I might experiment with a 12# wolf spring.

Those grips are Ed Brown Labyrinth.
