I just switched out the Full length guide rod on my SA loaded for an ED Brown GI style set up. The problem is that the flange on the end that butts up against the barrel link is wide enough that it won't allow the half moon cut out to contact the barrel. I other words, the flange is hitting the inside of the slide and free floating it above the barrel. Should I file the sides of the flange to fit?

The flange on the guide rod shouldn't touch anything but its seat in the frame; if it's rubbing on the slide, or the barrel is contacting it when it links down, or the barrel lug is contacting it when in battery, remove a little material to provide clearance.
