Looking for exotic wood for SA UltraCompact grips. I wonder about a birdseye maple. I have cocobola on my other 1911, but cocobola seems sort of run-of-the-mill.

Cherry might be an option. We have access to Myrtle nearby. Only two places in the world grow that stuff, Oregon coast and Jerusalem. But I don't see a lot of myrtle craft shops offering 1911 grips.

I'll check Brownell's . . . any place else I should look?

Call Craig Spegel, his number is in the archives, and have him fix you up with something different. His grips are the best, and he works in uncommon woods.

Navidex from Brownell's offers thin, smooth, micarta in black and some other colors. Looks like a nice grip. $40 seems like a decent price. I feel burned, though, paying $12.50 for the four "special" screws to mount them.
