Does anyone have a favorite powder for 38+P loads using a jacketed bullet?

I am looking to make 925 FPS with a 130 grain FMJ (ICORE load). I can do it with several powders but velocities vary widely.

MAybe I have to bi the bullets and use Vihta Vouri powder.

I don't have any loads that slow but you might try IMR 7625. I'm loading closer to 1400 fps range with 125s but I'm getting std deviations in as lows as 5 fps on 10 round chrono sets. I've seen similar consistancy with .40 S&W.

I'm below you on bullet weight (124 grain) but I'll give you my new load anyway.

V V N340 7.1 grains

124 grain Montana Gold FMJ

Winchester small rifle primers

X-bar velocity = 1347 fps

X-bar pf = 167.028

Range (R) = 16

Standard Deviation = 6

Lowest observed velocity = 1336

Lowest observed pf = 165.664

Lowest possible velocity (theoretical) = 1329

Lowest possible pf for an individual round (theorectical) = 164.796

The way the crono rules are written I don't plan to change anything.

You're absolutely right KLN. I made an assume based on where we are and who made the post, but he *could* be talking about a 38 Special +P.

If that's the case banjobart, do not put my load into your 38 revolver!! (Don't even put my load into your 38 Super +P Auto unless you work up to it!!)

For ICORE(38spl), Try Nitro 100. Yes, it is a shotgun powder. Find a load you like, and then load some N100(start at 3.8gr and chrono to your velocity) You might be pleasantly surprised! Good luck, DC
