Hi,

For those FBI canted holsters, where are they supposed to be worn? Right at your waistline's 3:00 position, or slightly back at the 4:00 position? I suppose having it farther back will aid concealment and that's why it's angled forward? Thanks.

From what I've heard the CORRECT place is back a bit at 4; but I wear mine forward.

Walking around with a gun on is one thing, sitting down and going through 365 days a year is another. The forward position, mixed with my build (handles), and the tendency of pants to want to go down a little, and that I tend to slouch when sitting for long periods, works out best. I could never get used to "sitting on the gun anyway - 4 o'clock is also harder in bucket seats).

There are issues with the grip of the gun "levering out" in other carry positions too - i.e. not pressing against the body - increasing the catching of shirts on weapon. Thin grips helped this greatly for me.

4 O'clock I guess would be a must with a tucked in shirt and cover garment - but I usually have an untucked t-shirt over the top with this arrangement.

IMHO the 15 degree tilt helps concealment even with the gun forward - less horizontal component on the grip to conceal.

I have a friend who went the other route, instead of 4 o'clock he keeps his at 5.30!

I wear mine at approx. 4:30. It gives me the most natural draw vs. the holster angle.

Look at yourself in front of a full length mirror to see what I mean. Place your hand at your beltline with your index finger extended as if alongside the frame of your weapon. At the 3:00 or trouser seam your finger will naturally be pointing straight down. As you move along your belt the angle will increase to almost horizontal at the small of back.

Battler is true you can wear it farther forward but I have to break my wrist to an extreme angle to draw an FBI cant from the 3:00.

YMMV

Agreed, although I get some back from the draw being from a forward position.

In carrying concealed, (IMHO) the concealment and comfort are in some ways more important than draw speed - so few people carry because of the difficulty - without compromises for concealment and comfort a piece may be exchanged for an inferior weapon, or just left at home.

A lot has to do with one's build, shoulder/wrist flexibility, et cetera. An FBI-canted holster, worn at 3 o'clock, will print less than one worn at 4:30 if one must bend forward at the waist. It is also more easily protected from a bump-frisk and more accessable when seated.

The downside is that it is more easily seen if an open-fronted covering garment flaps open. Outside-the-waistband rigs, worn at 3:00, also make it hard to access one's right front pants pocket.

With an FBI cant type rig try this: wear the gun with the rear sight lined up with the side seam of the pants. This puts the rest of the gun just far enough to the rear to be concealed well, still draw well, and the cant keeps the gun butt off the car seat back, restaurant booth seat back, etc. This works for most builds, except perhaps a very slender person.
