Feeding Problems, Kimber-

1266 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Ned Christiansen
I recently purchased a Kimber Pro Carry. After reading the fine print it confirmed my experience, SWCs are a problem.
What needs to be done to feed SWCs? New barrel? Throating? Any help would be appreciated.

Somewhere in the owners manual it indicated the piece was designed to be used with round nose/hardball type heads.

When using SWCs I may get 2-3 shots off before it jams. I don't recall OAL but they feeds fine in other Gov models and a P90.
1. Check bullet dimensions. A good start is OAL=1.250-1.255"; crimp=.469-.471.

2. If this fails (along with magazines), then extractor tension, breech face smoothness and the possibility of chamber reaming must all be considered.....typical Kimber FTF drill.
And, do not fail to either get a Wilson magazine or magazine conversion. This is a must. Unfortunately, the factory follower (Devel/CMC style) is not the last word. I'm sure it works for some of the people some of the time, but it just is not the best out there and I have seen many, many cases where making the switch transforms a magazine from 25% reliable to 100%. Sorry but true, this little mod can make all the dif.
