USMM guy--------- A dog may, or may not, attack an intruder. So I see the biggest value of a dog to be in alerting us.

Especially when triggered by sounds we can't even hear.

So I don't dismiss little dogs at all. I bet that little dude will set up a ruckus id somebody starts sneaking around Casa De USMM

We are also fans of the Yorkie-mix watch dog in this household. Jerome is a rescue dog that not only happily takes on the task of guarding all land in the back forty square yards, but also a small body of water that is on our vast estate. The camo ring on his neck is so that he does not slip through our fence, thus keeping the general population safe from his wrath.

All kidding aside…he will let you know if he spots somebody that he doesn’t recognize!

Looks like he's getting ready to tackle some whitewater there... :)

I guesss we all agree... dogs don’t go forward?
I've never owned one that would be useful for the parameters you have set, i.e., not escalating the encounter, allowing me to approach stealthily to a position of cover/overwatch, etc.

I have never owned such a purpose-trained dog, that could be controlled silently for independent but supporting action.

Any dogs I have ever owned that would be useful in a fight, if deployed...it would either be turn them loose and follow after them, or keep them locked up and I go in alone. They would only be a pain in the ass if they went with me.

Careful, Aggie. Some dog owners have unilaterally endowed their dogs with Super Powers that the dogs are unacquainted with.

You're asking for trouble!
Ha, true enough. I agree though, dog stays inside in this scenario. She would only be a liability outside since she isn’t trained for that kinda thing.
