I think it is a type of ceracoat

My government model shows wear similar to a type of ceramic or fine powder type coating. Typical to any paint type material difficult to maintain on shrarp edging or heavily handled surfaces. Depending how it holds up after first year seriously considering refinishing in an old style blueing finish or trying a hand in an electralisys type of coloring followed by bluing to permanently color the metal followed by a hot oil bath. Not too fond of process on it now. Wearing to quickly after three months of easy use. Have not let weapon see any real word day to day activity. Grip safety and front of grip already showing some reddening similar to old colts when I was in the Army in the 80's.

Remington lists the finish as: Satin black oxide finish

The finish sucks, at least on mine. I have a 5" R1 Enhanced, After 6 days of in to the holster and out of the holster at night the finish is missing off the top of the slide from muzzle to chamber on both sides of the top, also areas on the sides of the slide along with trigger guard and a little off the frame.

I purchased a new R1 Carry Commander and it came with some bad areas in the finish. I sent it back and they didn't do any touch ups or anything to it. Said the finish isn't covered on the warranty. It's hit and miss on the quality of these. I was very disappointed with this Carry Commander. It's "match grade" barrel bushing has play in it. They said it's "in spec" even though the spring plunger pushes it out slightly and you can push back against it it goes in out when you let go.

Make sure you see it before you buy it. Check it over good before you buy one.

I had ordered and paid for the R1 Carry Commander before I saw it from an online dealer, it was the last one and on sale. I went that route because my local shop didn't have any.
