Hey Gang,
found this Colt, the SN is SS453xx. It has "Colt MarkIV Series 70" on the slide. But the slide and frame have the Series 80 safety block system. The gun is a D&L Sports custom gun and I have emailed Dave Lauck to see what he may have on file. Does anyone now of this series? Date of manufature?
Here are some images:

What I can tell you is that the frame is a STS Colt Gov't unit made between 1989-1991. The slide is most likely one of the blued replacement slides Brownells advertises but rarely has in stock. Aside from that it's probably just a custom gun built to a previous owner's order.

I'm curious... why should a person xx out part of the serial # in a post? Is there a legal or just common sense reason? AND, shouldn't one be careful then to hide the serial # in the photo they post? Take a look; it's very easy to see...

Hi Mikey,
I usually dont care if the SN is presented, I couldnt remember the SN when I originally did the post and added the images a half hour later. Thus the XX
. The last two numbers arent relevant in this post due to the amount of guns produced in a year. No leagal reason to not post unless it worth a million bucks or stolen, and I run my numbers so I know its not stolen.
Cheers

Crack open your handy-dandy copy of Brownells catalog (you DO have one, right?
). In it you'll see Colt apparently sells a replacement slide rollmarked Series 70 but with Series 80 safety cuts. I guess they mark it Series 70 so it can be used on a gun w/o a FP safety without liability concerns. At least that's my guess.

my dad has a series 70 slide with the 80 safety features, it does Not have the forward serations like yours does.

i assumed it was produced when colt was transitioning from 70 to 80 maybe ?

Caspian frame + Colt parts = Col-spian? or Cas-olt?
