Do serrations on frontstraps and mainspring housings provide a good hold or do they get slippery?

Are scalloping or golfball treatments nearly the same as checkering? As far as getting a good firm hold.

Serrations help, but are not as good as checkering. Fortunately, you can buy a checkered MS housing for a reasonable price. Checkering for the front strap is expensive. I prefer skate board tape. The grip is just as good as checkering for a small fraction of the cost. I have no experience with the other grip treatments.

SA checkered main spring housing and skateboard tape here. Yes, it does help with the grip.

My two carry guns.

One is an off the shelf model, serrated MSH and skateboard tape. The other is a custom built number, checkered MSH and checkered frontstrap. Both are better than nothing, cut checkering is better than tape for me. I've never used a pistol with the golfball treatment, can't comment.
