what are the advantages of a full length guide rod? My uncle told me it wasnt really important i own a GI style RIA is it worth it to install one?

It's been argued many times. Search a little.

FLGD is not needed.

Blammo is right, do a search. I've replaced all my FLGR with a standard plug. Much easier to break down.

I have used both in my 1911's never seen that much difference in them, it's which one you prefer, i still have both in mine guns no problems.
