Funny thing overheard at the gun range...

I live and shot in NYC and on Saturday a married couple was asking about buying a gun. I have lived in NYC (17 years) long enough to spot a NYC democrat and these two fit the bill. Well, you should have heard their reaction when told that they would have to wait 9 to 12 months to get the permit that would allow to purchase a gun. The woman actually asked whoes rule that was. Wonder if they thought about that when they voted last time. I only hope they think about it next election time. The range manager told me that people applying for guns is way up and he gets that response alot. That couple still looked at my NRA hat with a funny look on their way out.

Well, in NJ just across the wonderful Hudson, we have to first have a firearms permit. This allows you to buy a longarm without any waiting period. However, you needs to have this first to get a handgun permit. The Firearm permit has no expiration although it takes about a month to get approval. The handgun permit requires about 30 days to issue. You must have the aforementioned permit first. Then you have 90 days to buy one handgun per permit. You can apply for as many permits you want at the same time but it costs about $2.00 per permit. The main application is $15.00. After 90 days, you can extend the permit for 90 more days but that is it. You need to start the process over again after that. Not too bad but still crappy to me.
Kinda takes the fun out of living in NJ. I applied for a few more permits 2 weeks ago. It had been a year since my last 4 permits and the PD said that they would have to re-submit my "Mental Health Background Check" paperwork again, and re-contact my references, (and probably re-lose my application) before they could issue 3 permits.

At least they didn't give me some crap about re-printing. They said they have to do this if you don't apply for a permit at least once a year. Let's see how they are when I come back in every 6 weeks for another permit.

So much for the 30 wait. Nj never denies purchase permits but I really think they make you wait forever in the hopes that you might forget that you're waiting for a gun permit.

As far as CCW...when satan calls me up and wonders why there's snow in his front yard, I'll apply!

I wonder if guns are like guitars.

Should a $2000 Custom make me shoot better compared to a $500 import?

I can play my $300 Jap guitar just as well as my $2000 Les Paul Custom.
