Indiana is a free state. It took just 42 days to get my CCW permit which allows me to purchase any firearm (other than Class 3) by only filling out the yellow form. We are auto friendly and a "shall issue state".

However, we also have Julia Carson in the 10th District.

How about Vermont? They don't require a permit for carrying at all, not open or even concealed! The only restrictions on purchase are Federal.

I'd move if the weather just wasn't so cold...

Hawaii is the worst. You have to apply for a firearms permit and get fingerprinted and background checked just to buy a longarm, and the permit must be renewed every year. It involves at least 2 trips to the police station (only the main station) during very limited weekday only hours. Then you have to register every longarm within 2, or 3, or 10 days (no one can decide). For pistols, you have to pick out the SPECIFIC pistol and apply for a 1 time permit to buy that one gun. Wait 2 weeks (why, no one is sure), go back to the police station and pick up the permit, then you have 2 weeks to buy the gun or you have to start over. Then return with the gun and register it. Takes 3 in person visits to the police station. The seller has to report the sale and they do check up on you eventually. I bought a 22 rifle at a gun show from a private seller and never registered it because I couldn't get the time off and was, THANK GOD, getting PCSed out of there. It took them 3 months to call me and ask why I didn't register the rifle, but by then it was shipped off to TEXAS (Hell Yeah!!!) and away from them. Even though I had the longarm permit with the background check, and the seller informed them of the sale, they still wanted me to register it in person. Talk about a prison state!! I did buy a CMP Garand and got it mailed directly to me, so I'm not sure if they would have ever known about it if I didn't register it (but I did). I was quite popular, since I would drop by to register 3-4 guns at a time over the first few months in Hawaii.
North Carolina isn't as bad. You have to apply for handgun permits in person, but you can get as many as you want and they are good for 5 years. Only cost $5 each too. I still have a couple, but since I moved to Texas, I probably can't use them. The permit lets you buy a longarm on the spot (they just need a copy) and a pistol without any NCIS crap.
Now I am in Texas but have not bought a gun yet. I'm getting my C&R license and a CCW once I have enough time in-state. I think the CCW lets you buy on the spot without a NCIS check as well. Lets hope so.

I thank God I live in Arizona! I also support the GOA and NRA and keep in touch with my state and congress critters, newspapers, and vote to keep our state pretty free from the horror stories of other states when it comes to acquiring firearms.

$10??? Must have been a long time ago... I got mine from FL last year, cost me much more...

Currently, it's up to $117 for the App Fee, plus whatever it may cost you to get Printed and Photographed...

IIRC, you misunderstood him... NYC is rather unique...

You must apply for a Permit to Possess (purchase as well).

They will issue Permit's for Premises, and certain "Carry" situations.

IIRC, you must have either to Transport the gun to your home, or to the Range to practice, but a Permise permit does not permit you keep it anywhere other than the address it was issued to, the Premise permit only covers that address.

For more info related to NYC, you can read this link ~ http://www.ci.nyc.ny.us/html/nypd/html/dclm/ldinfo.html

Here in the PRK, it's not quite as bad, although THAT is changing... They recently signed into law the latest... A requirement to establish a new Testing and Licensing process that won't do squat to make us safer, just make it harder for some to buy a gun.

At this time, only 629 different models of New handguns are approved for sale here ( http://caag.state.ca.us/firearms/certlist.htm ), and NO Semi-Auto rifles with "evil features" are allowed to be bought or sold legally by 99% of the residents.

I am still planning to move to UT, a Class 3, "Gun free" state, that while it may not be the best Western state in terms of laws, ranks as one of the better ones. AZ and NV are high on the list as well, but they are slowly capitulating to the Liberal transplants, much like OR, and WA has. ID still tops the list, IMHO, but UT remains close.

With a Valid UT CCW, there's no waiting for any purchase, and their CCW is relatively easy to get, even for Non-Residents. Definately much better than any of the other previously mentioned states.

I have been hearing a lot of complaints around here from the Socialist Left as well, as they learn that the "Sane Gun Laws" they supported have now prevented them from buying a weapon to protect themselves with, in light of the continued Terrorists Threats.

These same people had complained about how "Easy" it was for people to get guns, convinced at what the Lawmakers, and the Media portrayed as a problem, but have since learned through personal experience that those "Loopholes" never really existed, and their sense of safety is put on hold for 10 days while they suffer through a waiting period, after taking the BFSC test that many fail the first time through.

On average, many have taken at least 14 days to process, and take their new aquisition home, some have had to wait even longer, after finding minor unresolved infractions returned from DMV against their Drivers Licenses.

Roscoe, I hope you're right, but here more than anywhere, I am afraid they will have simply hit the Snooze Button.

Much as I hate to say it, I would like to see a Major Threat or Attack hit this area, or Los Angeles, and get the Sheep really in fear for their safety, and lives. Only then may they begin to awaken to the Reality they have, and in some cases, continue to support through our Legislators.

I bought my first 3 handguns when I lived in Kansas. Walk in pick out as many as you can pay for, instant check and out you go with them depending on outcome. No other regs. Just the one yellow federal form and nothing else. Most simple purchasing that I have ever experienced.

Hey Mus...
With the right WA Concealed Pistol Permit, one can go into a shop, complete the 4473 and blue pistol transfer form and walk out with your new handgun with NO nics call. I can do this until 2003, when my license and the law changes the procedure. Pretty cool!

Well, in NJ just across the wonderful Hudson, we have to first have a firearms permit. This allows you to buy a longarm without any waiting period. However, you needs to have this first to get a handgun permit. The Firearm permit has no expiration although it takes about a month to get approval. The handgun permit requires about 30 days to issue. You must have the aforementioned permit first. Then you have 90 days to buy one handgun per permit. You can apply for as many permits you want at the same time but it costs about $2.00 per permit. The main application is $15.00. After 90 days, you can extend the permit for 90 more days but that is it. You need to start the process over again after that. Not too bad but still crappy to me.
Kinda takes the fun out of living in NJ. I applied for a few more permits 2 weeks ago. It had been a year since my last 4 permits and the PD said that they would have to re-submit my "Mental Health Background Check" paperwork again, and re-contact my references, (and probably re-lose my application) before they could issue 3 permits.

At least they didn't give me some crap about re-printing. They said they have to do this if you don't apply for a permit at least once a year. Let's see how they are when I come back in every 6 weeks for another permit.

So much for the 30 wait. Nj never denies purchase permits but I really think they make you wait forever in the hopes that you might forget that you're waiting for a gun permit.

As far as CCW...when satan calls me up and wonders why there's snow in his front yard, I'll apply!

I wonder if guns are like guitars.

Should a $2000 Custom make me shoot better compared to a $500 import?

I can play my $300 Jap guitar just as well as my $2000 Les Paul Custom.

that is how nyc is. they just keep the frustration going with the hope you give up. when i got permit in '90, they changed my 'case officer' three times and each time they had my start the process from scratch. the only justice was about a year or two ago the whole permit division was shook up because of -surprise-corruption. my funniest experience was the the police officer doing the mandatory inspection of my HKP7 was convinced it was an HKMP5 (which was on some no-no list). that was frustrating afternoon, but funny.

I find it amazing that there are still brain dead morons in this country who still believe that the Demonazis have been good for this countyr. I personally will never ever vote for a Democrat again. They are cut from the same bolt of cloth as the socialists and other neocommunists. They are the enemy of this Republic and I will vote Republican or I will not vote.

It is comforting to know that my views, philosophies, and political affiliation before the attack have all remained unchanged after the attack.

WHat amazes me are all the people screaming for liberties and civil rights, but deny thier right to bear arms! Is not the 2nd amendment the epitome of individual right?

Thanks for bringing this up. For citizens of Virginia, November 6 is election day and the race is close. Mark Warner, the socialist (I mean democrat) candidate is ahead in the polls. To those of you who live in Virginia, I urge you to vote next Tuesday...and hope it isn't for any democrats.

New Hampshire- Show up, pay your money, do the NICS, go home with gun.
Amen to that!

What really separates New Hampshire from all of the other "northern" or New England states is that NH is still an unapologetically conservative stronghold in most places. Small government and less restriction of personal freedoms is the rule -- not the exception. Add the fact that there is no income tax AND no sales tax, and a guy can actually afford to go out and but a gun every once in a while, too.

Of course, things have been changing a bit as all of the "Massholes" have moved north in droves (to escape their own liberal utopia), but it is still as good as you are ever likely to do north of the Mason-Dixon. (Vermont may sound good, based upon their tolerance of the 2nd Amendment, but the overwhelming political tone there is about 180 degrees out from the average guy on this board.)

Does anyone know of another state with the guts to put something like "LIVE FREE OR DIE" on their license plates??

This is why our forefathers attatched that phrse "shall not be infringed" to the second ammendment. We Americans as a group have allowed that right to be infringed. Now we suffer. Hopefully the NRA(we) can capitalize on this and get a few things changed in the following elections and on capitol hill.
