Did Colt's continue to stamp a G near the disconnector hole on new production receivers after it had suspended commercial production?

G Marked Frames

The latest Colt I have is 23540XX and it has a large G stamped on the top of the frame. 23360XX also has a G on the frame, but 23035XX has an N on top of the frame.

I have a commercial Colt Government Model made in 1927, and it has a G mark on the frame. It came from a supposedly "rejected" batch of military frames. The interesting thing is back in 1927 there were no pistols being made for the military. Whether it came from a overage of 1924 Transition frames, or whether Colt was just pulling a few tricks is something I can't determine.
