They certainly are fast, ordered Monday a.m., got it Wednesday a.m..

The slide is a government length blued slide. It does not have any holes for the fireing pin block that the 80 Series have. It has large roll marks on left side that say
COLTS MKIV/ SERIES '70
GOVERNMENT MODEL
.45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER
It also has the Rampant Colt just before the Straight up and down cocking serations.
on the right sed it says
COLT COMPETITION.
There are no sights, firing pin extractor, or barrel bushing. It also has the correct height ejection port.Total price was $178.98 inc. shipping. I talked to Tommy when I ordered it, he has handled all my recent orders and does a great job. If you do not have anyone in particular that you ask for when you order from them, ask for "tommy" he has a great attitude!

yes, that is correct, but they are different on the 'other side' ;^)
Some had thought that it might be a new production '80 Series with the '70 Series rollmark, that is why I wanted to be specific on all asspects of the side

It would have been entirely possible to have gotten a slide marked Series 70 with the Series 80 slide safety cuts. I am looking at one right now, on a '70 Combat Commander 9mm. It used to have a stock'70 slide until my 'gunsmith' cracked it trying to tighten it, and he replaced it with this one.

Whats even stranger about this slide is that on the left side it has the MK/IV series 70 stamp, but has Government Model, and on the right side has stamped Combat Commander Model. It is NOT cut down from a GM slide, and appears to be colt, Rampant Colt and all.

The 'smith didn't have any trouble finding it, so I assume they're rather plentiful/available, but in 9mm?

Colt did a lot of weird crap... My Enhanced LWT Alloy Commander is a "cross-over" gun of sorts... It's correct, and original flat top Enhanced slide, and says "Colt Combat Commander" down the right side, go figure...

I am convinced, that period of the late S70's, and S80's produced some strange things, most probably due to whatever was in the parts bins at the time the gun was finished...

I seem to remember that some years ago Colt made a special run of series '70 slides as they were in such high demand by competion shooters and the public at large.

I have examined a few of the exact same slides you are referring to and I believe these to be part of that (early 90's?) production run, hence the "Colt Competition" mark.

I do recall seeing ad's run for these in the back of the American Rifleman. I'm sure some TFL 'smith or collector can verify this with further details.
