I’m am new to the forum and want to say hello to everyone. I have recently inherited a Springfield 1911 that was manufactured in 1914 or possibly 1915. The pistol belonged to my grandfather, who was the original owner. My father just passed and I got the pistol. Looks to me that while my father had it, it was possibly refinished and the sights have been changed. Want to have original sights put back on it. Anyone ideas as to who can do this for me. Thanks for any input.

Welcome from N.E. Florida.
Kind of a shame , the 1911 looks to have been hard chromed. Chrome could be removed, front sight removed , repro original sighs put on and finished in dark original finish. Have no idea of the cost but I’m sure a few members here could help or do the work.

Thanks for the input, want to get sights installed and will leave the finish. The finish is my dad’s contribution to the pistol.

Possibly, better pictures would help, but that looks to be parkerized to me, and possibly over a blasted surface. Parkerized finishing became the standard finish for M1911A1 pistols in about 1943 because of its superior corrosion and wear resistance, and many arsenal refinished pistols had it applied. The front sight will tricky to replace. Springfield Armory M1911 pistols front sight were actually integral to the slide and were not staked on.

Howdy from Tomball, Texas. If that's the way he wanted the 1911 to look like, just enjoy it the way it is - every time you see it it will have memories of him.

However, there are many 1911 enthusiasts out there that have very good ideas to put it back the way it was.

My comment was based on returning pistol to original . Pistol is OP and he can do what he wants, completely understand wanting to keep it as memory of his Dad.

Greetings, thanks for the input. Pretty sure I will be leaving the finish the way it is and will have to find someone to install original sights. By the way, my nieces husband works for Tomball P.D. Stay safe.
