I put the 3M "stair tape" (I think that's what it's called) on my SA Champion. Seems to be holding up well though I don't shoot as much as I'd like too.
I bought the 1" but wish I'd gotten the 2" instead. With the 2" you can cut it wide enough to go under the edges of the grip panels and have full coverage on the FS.
Someone in a previous post mentioned "marine tape" as an alternative. It's more of a rubberized texture without the grit that can work itself loose. I keep meaning to look for that stuff and try it out.
