My old leather gun belt is about time to retire, I have been wearing it basically everyday as my belt and gun belt for like 10 years now and it feels like it's getting a bit floppy. It's a single layer leather a little over a 1/8" thick. It has served me well, but I would like to buy a new one. I like leather, but some of these nylon woven ones with the ratcheting buckles seem nice. I'm also thinking a little thicker would be better to hold the 45 CCO. I was looking at these two: EDC-BELTS and Heavy-Duty Gun Belt . Thoughts on either of these or some other good ideas that are priced similarly? Thanks

This has been debated as much as anything over the last decade. Personally, I’ve boiled it down to two choices, AG gun leather. it’s run by a nice fellow in Georgia named Al Garcia and his belts are really heavy duty leather, have an internal stiffener and they just don’t move. They are a little difficult to tighten up so basically you make your choice before you leave the house and it stays there all day, even with heavy carry pistols.

My next choice is Nextbelt canvas type. They hold up reasonably well, and are infinitely adjustable. You can loosen them up, sitting in the car and then give it a quick tug, pressing the button when you get out and tighten up the bell.

I’m sorry I don’t know anything about the two that you posted. I have a dead belt drawer that’s almost as big as the dead holster drawer. Lots of folks will chip in with their suggestion momentarily.

Wilderness tactical has been my go to belt before and after I retired. I like their five stitch FDE or coyote in 1.75 width. It is wide enough to balance my 1911's or my most current EDC, Glock gen5 model 19 with a spare magazine. I have been using a Galco Avenger for the Glocks and a Davis Liberty for the 1911's. I think Wilderness also offers a belt with a insert to make the belt more rigid. Good luck.

I’ve been impressed by Mitch Rosen leather. I have a few of his holsters and two of his gun belts. The belts are the most supportive I’ve owned, compared to samples from Bullhide Belts and Kramer.
Good feedback. You don't hear much about Mitch Rosen belts.

I have an A&G and a Wilderness 5 stitch Instructor belt. They are different from each other, but I like both.

I have a box full of belts - leather and nylon - that I bought over the last 30 years, looking for the best belt for wearing casually and in suits for special occasions that also comfortably carried my full size pistols and four spare magazines. I have regular leather belts and shark skin and elephant skin. I have belts from The Belt Man and other leather makers as well nylon belts from 5.11. The only one that fit the bill is my 5.11 Apex Gunner's Belt. It is B10 coated webbing that is the same thickness as a regular dress belt, but, has tensile strength of 1,500 lbs. It easily and comfortably carries my full size steel pistols and four spare magazines. I purchased a couple, in case they were to wear out. I'm still wearing the original one that I bought about 10 years ago. I wore this one for 3 years at work on/off duty before I retired. And continue to wear it in retirement.

All of the leather and nylon belts that I wore were good for about 5 - 7 years and both would fray, deform, and mildew (from sweat during hot, humid summers). My 5.11 Apex Gunner's Belt is still like new, well almost. Just a slight bend in the belt after conforming to my waist with the weight of a pistol and four magazines after years of usage. I actually think this belt will outlast me.

Unfortunately for those that did not buy one, it appears that 5.11 discontinued them. I also noticed a similar belt called the Liger belt made by Maxpedition. But, it looks like Maxpedition discontinued that belt as well. If you search around, you can sometimes find a 5.11 Apex Gunner's belt that is new, old stock. Then it's a matter of finding one in your size.

5.11 Apex Gunner's Belt, the only belt that I wear and have worn for the last 10 years and still going strong. The price was $60 and worth every penny.

Another vote for Nexbelt ... I have two, one black and one in kind of FDE or khaki. i love them and have one on every day. Strong and stiff enough to handle my holster, gun and Leatherman tool with ease. But the big plus is the adjustability ... it's so easy to loosen or take-up a couple clicks ... get in the car loosen a little "click -click" get out tighten it back "click-click" ... so easy and subtle no one will even notice you do it,

Another big thing for me is the total weight of the belt and buckle ... I had worn one of the two-layer leather gun belts with the steel reinforcement for a long time and the difference is really noticeable. I'm now a Nexbelt fan and will never go back.

I like Hanks belts. They last seemingly forever. I never had a problem with them. But since it doesn’t wear out easily, then one belt lasts for many years.

of course if you make your own belt with items from Tandy Leathercraft, for example, your belts will be super long lasting too. I made some for myself and a bunch for my family too. Although one can go wild and buy a lot of tools for it, you really don’t need much. Plus many Tandy stores will let you work on it in their stores too and even help out with some tools too. But since I haven’t wore out my Hanks belt yet. I haven’t needed to use them yet.

Crossbreed, Blade Tech, Galco, Triple-K Leather, are my staples right now. The Crossbreed 1.5" in belts are probably my favorite. I rarely wear belts other than leather (a 5.11 instructor belt in the pic) as I like the look and support of real leather plus conventional buckles. And when I need a new belt, I like to examine belts in a store before purchasing. Never needed to custom order a belt or buy online.
