I switched to Kore ratcheting belts about a year ago and haven't worn anything else. Very stiff for carrying a full size 1911 and the ability to loosen and tighten the belt easily for getting in/out of a car is priceless. In addition to nylon they have leather which I also use. Good luck.

Check out Fatboy belts from Two Fools Leather Goods. Curt, the owner, is a good friend of mine. Not necessarily a gun belt, but a lot are used for that. Single layer harness leather, and depending on the model, leather up to nearly 3/8" thick. The XXLFatboy belt is about 1/4" thick, and up to 72" length in the XXXL. Non marring buckle which is nice if you work on cars and TSA friendly. They are not cheap, but I don't think you can wear one out. He also has "blemished" belts from time to time that are about half price with just a cosmetic blemish. Made in Monroe, NC.

If you order one, make sure to verify the thickness to make sure it will go though any holster loops, etc, that you might wear. And a word of advice if you get one, practice with the buckle to break it in and definitely do not eat at Taco Bell until you have it broken in!

Curt also makes a lot of holsters - especially for 1911's, mag pouches, wallets and dog collars (made like his belts).

I've never been known for my contemporary style or been asked to grace the cover of GQ magazine. For years now, I've been wearing a Galco Rigger's Belt made out of reinforced nylon and has a buckle for a snap link if you ever need one.

Bought a couple of Kore belts a while back during an awesome Christmas special - one leather and one nylon. Both have been GREAT! LOVE THE RATCHET!!!! Also like that they send you the raw belt and buckles, and you trim them yourself - saves a LOT of "measuring" issues. Also have a Hank's Ranger belt that I bought during one of their "seconds" sales at less than half price. It's ALSO a great belt, and for sure my favorite "BBQ Rig", or "out on the town" dressy belt down here in Dallas.

Nexbelt is great with a caveat... My wife has been wearing their leather gun belts for several years. I've had to have several buckles rebuilt under warranty as they have come apart on her at the most inopportune times. Specifically, in ladies' restrooms in town... You can imagine how frustrating that is. I won't buy another belt from them in anything other than their appendix EDC configuration that is also used by Warrior Poet Society. I have had no issues with that design other than a cracked plastic liner that they replaced under warranty as it was less than one year old. (Belts don't last forever unless you get good quality leather which means you have to have holes punched in it. I LOVE the minute adjustment of the Nexbelt.) The Nexbelt EDC is specifically designed for appendix carry but will work well with any carry option. I own a black one and a tan/khaki one but they are both Nexbelt logo, not WPS, as WPS was sold out. I will get a gray one at some point. They're that good.

Damn, so many recommendations here, I am definitely going to try a web belt for something different and the adjustability of the buckles on those is nice. Is the 1/4" thick leather the standard for leather gun belts?

The Ultimate Gun Belt by A Better Belt. I have two and they're very rigid. However, they are thick and holsters with small loops may not fit. I primarily carry using Milt Sparks VM2 and SS2 IWB and Andrews Hybrid Saddle OWB holsters and the A Better Belt fits fine. My Milt Sparks 55BN is very tough to feed the belt through the loops and my MS Axiom is a negative.

Is the 1/4" thick leather the standard for leather gun belts?
Here is a tidbit from the Milt Sparks "Questions" page

Our gun belts are made and have always been made of two layers of 6½ to 7 oz leather cut from the backbone of the hide. This equates to approximately 13/64” to 7/32” in overall thickness. Keep in mind that this is the belt thickness we fit our holsters to, and our holsters are intended to fit snug on the belt. Any manufacturers’ belt over 7/32″ thick will be somewhat tighter in the loops of one of our holsters than on a belt of our own manufacture. Any measurement over 1/4″ in overall thickness of leather and you may not be able to close the snaps over the belt!
I'm not sure there is a "standard" for thickness. That's why I suggested you pay attention to advertised thickness from various makers.

It will also depend on what holsters you have. The more "elegant" holster makers, such as Sparks, Del Fatti, Rosen, Ritchie, that also make belts that are less square probably won't work with a belt that works fine with some of the less elegant holsters.

You can also probably use a thicker 1.5" belt, if your holster loops are 1.75". The typical default holster loops for most makers is 1.5", but there are still a lot of holster makers that default to 1.75" loops, and many holster makers will offer 1.75" as an option.

I thick, square, 1.5" belt probably isn't going to fit in a Milt Sparks holster with 1.5" loops, at least not with a lot of work. A Galco or Simply Rugged with 1.75" loops probably isn't going to have any trouble with that type of belt.

A&G says Handmade Gun Belts with Superior Quality

The thickness will be a tad shy of .25 inches.
The Beltman says Frequently Asked Questions

Each layer of the bull hide is almost 1/8" thick so the finished dual-layer CCW belt will be ALMOST 1/4" thick.
I think we've had a recommendation for Bigfoot gun belts Leather Gun Belt (18oz) with Steel Core

These legendary gun belts all come in the standard 1.5 inch width; the 18 oz. steel core gun belt option is approximately .291” thick.
Chances are good, that Bigfoot belt isn't going to work with a Milt Sparks holster.

I am partial to the Ares Gear Aegis Belt. It is made from very stiff scuba webbing and has a bombproof infinitely adjustable buckle. Fits true to size.

If you want a leather belt check out this link to The Ultimate Gun Belt. I do not own one but after perusing the wealth of info on the website I am intrigued. They have many carry specific options and you can have holes spaced at 3/4" rather than the traditional 1"

I ordered one a few weeks ago, it is a well made, heavy duty belt that looks like a dress belt. It’s custom made to my specifications for color, length, width, stitching, buckle, and the number of holes. It was $85 plus shipping and I had it in about 12 days. Carries my Staccato P in a Garrett OWB holster nice and tight.

Good to hear Pete. Did you go with the 1" hole spacing or the 3/4" hole spacing?
Trying to lose a few pounds so I hedged my bet, 7 holes 1” apart, just in case!
