Depends on the use I guess. I've got a "kit'n kaboodle" multicaliber kit that zips into a 3" (or so) round pouch. Covers everything from .22 rimfire to 12ga.

The cables aren't nearly as user friendly as traditional rods, but they do work and the kit's small enough to fit in my range bag or on my belt when I go hunting.

I started carrying this when I realized Murphy was out to get me: Feeding rough at the range? Whip out the kit and swab the feed ramp, etc.

I do tend to use the traditional kits for serious cleaning at home though.
