Have y'all heard of Gus Fischer, the 'Garand' guy? Well, he's also an ex-armorer for one of the Service pistol teams, back when they were using the M1911A1. To my great fortune, Gus is local to me and always does the local show. I have a 1953 Colt Gov Model with original barrel, but the marking has been mostly buffed/sanded off. I lucked into a NOS original barrel for it last year and have been meaning to fit it or have it done. I took it to the show and Gus fitted a pin and link and installed the barrel. The guy can do so much in so short of a time - it's like trying to follow 'sleight-of-hand'. Being a Colt part made during the '50s/'60s, the barrel just simply installed and was right. How great is to be able to walk into a gun show and have this man work on your gun. Plus, I got free stories while he was working!
