I no longer smoke but have a fetish for Zippos. I collect ones with skulls or other art that I like. The lower pic is my collection the only ones that have ever been filled or lit are the two plain looking ones in the back (the last ones I carried). Sorry for the picture quality only so much I can do with my desk top photography studio.;)

Cool Zippos! -----Funny, I like pretty much all things tobacciana: I dig metal lighters, vintage cigarette advertising art, cigar cutters, humidors, wooden cigar boxes etc. It's cool stuff. BUT.............. there's no way in hell that I would EVER intentionally inhale a carcinogen. Never had a puff in my life & never will.

I figure that I've already breathed in my share of asbestos brake & clutch dust.

Same with booze. I've distilled moonshine & worked as a bartender without ever having a drop. One can appreciate the culture and history without ingesting the stuff.
A dear friend of mine gave me this Camel lighter for Christmas a while back. She didn't realize that I just collected Zippos. I will treasure it always because it came from her.

I often have to knock on wood due to all the asbestos that I have been exposed to, including brake/clutch, tearing asbestos siding of houses, living in military barracks etc. By all rights I should be ate up with cancer due not only to asbestos but the plethora of other "deadly" chemicals that I've used with out proper protection. Of course I was bulletproof back then "I don't need no stinking gloves" was almost a motto. It's a miracle I'm still here. God must have some plan for me I guess. Oh I almost forgot driving a gasoline tanker and breathing Benzene fumes.

Never a smoker, but have two-pack-a-day dad's lighter, engraved when he was in Japan after the war.

This thread is totally making me regret that when I quit smoking in 1996, I gave my entire, extensive, collection of military Zippos (collected over almost twenty years) to a younger brother. Regrettably, when he passed, we never found any of them in his property.
I still have my Dads Zippo from many years ago. The thing is built like a tank. There is no sound like that of a Zippo being flipped open and closed. Iconic.
Did you all know that the Zippo lighter is a creation of another Austrian gentlemen too?

😆 But, But…..there’s no plastic in a Zippo!
Maybe all of the stamped metal parts found in both the Glock and the Zippo had confused me somehow? 🤒
😆 Yer killin’ me!! 🤣

Dagnabbit, you're right.

I could have sworn seeing a Chinese branded Zippo that had plastic parts in it though (where the flint screws in).

Name brand Zippos apparently are not Perfection.

For a number of years there were two companies in Japan that had contracts with Zippo. Zippo made the lighters and then these companies engraved and added a lot of fancy artwork to the lighters. Some of their artwork was truly beautiful. They added emblems that changed color with body heat when you held them or changed color in sunlight. Their black enamel and colorful engravings are some of the finest Zippo lighters around. They are Zippo lighters and engraved on their bottoms as such, but the boxes and paperwork was in Japanese.
snip- I have since collected over 4000 Zippo lighters
