Very cool!! I’ve thought about a Ruger Wrangler. It would be fun for plinking and maybe small game. 😄

The shop had two. This one was made in 1966. The other which was made 1968 had the rib. It was a hard choice because both were in almost new condition, but I went the plain Jane.
Very nice! My Dad had one just like it, and I shot it a lot. It was a great shooter. Unfortunately, one of my brothers took possession of it when Dad passed. Great find! Danny

Younger shooters probably can't appreciate just how ground-breaking the H&R .22 revolvers were at the time. Nine shots in a revolver was just about unheard of. These days of course there are a plethora of .22 revolvers holding close to double-digit capacities, but it wasn't always that way.

These don't have side plates and the action drops out of the bottom when the trigger is removed. I worked on one of these, maybe the .22 Sportsman, years ago for a customer and it took me weeks to get it back together. No schematics anywhere. I searched all over and found something similar that helped me figure it out. I had to replace some internal part and clean hard gunk out but finally got it back together and working well. I am not a video person but should have done a youtube video about reassembling this creature. Never shot it, though. Nice action when it works well and is lubed.

Cool! My H&R .22 only holds ONE round! It's a USRA.

I've thought about getting one of those 9-Shooters as a partner for it.

I bought a 939 a while back and have been looking for a 999. Looks like you got a beautiful revolver there. I always admired these H&R revolvers years ago and intend to grow my collection.

Thanks for posting this. I couldn't remember the model number, but this is the one my dad had when I was a kid. I remember the vent rib, the thumb rest grip and it had the swing out cylinder, not the break open. One of the first handguns I ever shot at maybe 8 or 9 years old.

He would always break it out during squirrel season, bring it to deer camp and on fishing trips. My two uncles also had .22s ... one had the Colt Huntsman and the other had a Colt New Frontier. These guns are what started my love of shooting pistols and revolvers.

Not sure whatever happened to my dad's H&R ... I lost track of a few things after he passed ... kinda think my sister or brother-in-law may have taken it. But I do have fond memories of shooting it.

If you try to use it as range gun the plastic pivot on mainspring guide rod will break.
My wife’s only .22 revolver is a 999 and she shoots it quite well. Occasionally fired DA for giggles, but mostly single action for hits.
I’ll check that mainspring thing mentioned above, but no problems in twenty years of (our) use- other than the windage stop screws needed nail Polish to stay put.
In my opinion, they are the best revolvers that H&R ever made.
