Is the hammer spring supposed to be alot heavier on the 40 cal model. I was thinking of buying a 40 cal HP but my wife could barley cock the hammer.

I think the hammer spring is the same weight as for the 9mm (32lbs.). I believe the .40 recoil spring is 20lbs. whereas the factory recoil spring for the 9mm is 17lbs.

I'm not totally sure about these numbers, just going from the top of my head. Check Wolff Springs and do some thread searches you should be able to find what the exact weights are.
