How do most of you get around the problem of eye protection interfering with hearing protection (muffs)? Leight makes an integrated pair but the NRR rating is lower.
I use RayBan Shooter model eye protection. The wire ear cables are small enough as to not interfer with hearing protection. If I'm shooting rifles I use Sonic ear plugs.
I always use plugs as well as muffs. If you use prescription
glasses try to use ones with narrow ear pieces that fit tight
to your head and that will not push out the muffs as much.
I use the plugs with 33 db reduction. The integrated pair
and plugs work well for my daughter. If you shoot rifle
or shotgun muffs with a flat profile will not interfere as
much with the stock when you are trying for a good cheek
weld. Go to the department store and buy a few different
ones and just return the ones you do not want, they do not
care.
I have some custom molded 35dB NRR ear plugs that I suppliment with 30dB NRR muffs, especially when shooting indoors. Outdoors I start with the plugs and add the muffs if necessary. I'm deaf in one ear and have lost some of my hearing in the other; I'd like to keep what hearing I have left.
You should always use plugs and muffs at an indoor range. Failure to do so can result in Tennitis (Sp). I have it and it sucks, constant ringing that keeps you from sleeping and hearing certain sounds.
