Hello, I would to know more about these Israeli markings found on recent imports of hi powers from Coles (which btw are *wonderful* folks to deal with). Now the description mentions that circle Y means police origin, but looking thru the various examples I see several distinct markings. I know that in the end to a certain extent the point is moot, since the Israeli use and refurbish whatever they get their hands on. But I figure there is still some underlying reason why certain things are marked a certain way. Specifically my questions are,

What is the difference between "circle מ" (mem) and "circle צ" (tsade)?
Why are some marked with one or two or three (or even more) Stars of David?

I clipped some photos for comparison.

Look carefully at the stars you are referring to.....5 points or 6 ?
I believe the 6 pointed star is 'The Star of David', while a five pointed star with an initial is an inspectors stamp....

Somebody will chime in with more info...
Graham.
