I have the opportunity to acquire one of the two MP5 here under, either an A3 made in Germany for $ 1800, or a Turkish MKE MP5 k for $ 2500. I am in Switzerland btw.

Buying both is not an option, as I am already buying two other fun toys from the same seller.

I have shot an MP5 k once at the Scottsdale Gun Club, fantastic gun, I absolutely fell in love with it. I guess the A3 is almost as much fun.

I don’t distrust the Turkish made MP5 made under license, I’m sure they are fine. But I’d rather have a German made HK, so there’s the dilemma.

The third option would be to buy none, and wait to find the German k of my dreams.

Opinions ?

The Kurz

I have shot the MP5 and it is a fun gun, no doubt about it.

I am sure the Kurz is just as fun? But I don’t think it is practical.

If it were me with this a decision. I would go original HK. Me, I like weapon with a rear stock. It would be an awesome squirrel hunting gun.

I personally prefer the A3 but the SD is the best out of the box in terms of shooting performance, the K was a little jumpy IMO and was way more awkward to use than the other two

The SD seems to be in another league financially, just saw two for sale, an Enfield made for 10 grand and a German one for 12 grand. There’s also an original HK silencer for sale at $ 1500.

Woah, wasn't expecting that to be honest. Yeah I kinda figured it would be the same price as the other guns since you are not subject to the insane inflation we are here.

Um well in that case the A3 is more useful as a gun overall but the K is unquestionably cooler.

My vote is for the A3. Fired a few of them over the years. Great fun, and a very impressive firearm. A bit more practical than the other option as well. Good for you that you can enjoy these things without having to jump through the asinine hoops we have here!!!!!

Personally I would buy the HK. I did purchase an HK MP5 parts kit and had a semi-auto built from the HK parts. It is a great SBR.

But with you preferring the K model I am not able to help you with that decision. I would think the POF is fine. But it is still not an HK. Hard decision for sure.

I have a lot of time behind MP-5s including my own pre-86 RR.

The straight A2 or A3 are about the best one out there.

The SD is kinda nose heavy and doesent balance well. They are nice to shoot but a pain to clean and the suppressor is on the loud side with very few options of a different suppressor. But the SD is the king of Chicks Dig It points after the SAS raid in Operation Nimrod.

The K looks cool but they arent as controllable to shoot on full.

My A3 was the result of many years of saving and shooting every FA MP-5 that I could get my hands on. I have an AAC TiRantM suppressor on mine and it is plenty quiet.

Thanks to all for replies and opinions / experience

I decided to make an offer on the A3 for a few reasons

Price is right, even here you hardly ever see any MP5 below $ 2500 or 3000, and a German K probably goes for $ 4-5000. I think the reason the Turkish one is more expensive is because Ks are either more sought after here, or just rarer.

I’d rather own an original German made HK

No one knows how long we can freely buy those toys in today’s social and political climate. The 19th May election was a huge blow to gun enthusiasts, with no benefit against terrorism.

It seems the A3 might be more practical and controllable / accurate as a range toy.

I'd go with the MP5. German quality cannot be beaten (except by the Swiss).

Must be nice being able to buy an MP5 for $1,800. They cost about $30,000 and up here in the US because of our stupid machine gun ban. I had one back in the 90's that I paid a little under $3,000 for (before the huge price increases to $30,000 caused by the ban) and later traded it for a Colt M16A1 plus some cash for my wallet. A 9mm sub machine gun was fun to shoot, but, a 5.56 caliber machine gun is just better.

Even though a bit off topic. Not all of us can afford to own one of the H&K MP5s or even close. For those of us who can't - I thought I'd mention the STRIBOG imported from Slovakia, a semi auto version of their military & police sub gun. I think they are a great value, & are very well made. with the addition of a collapsible safety harbor "BRACE" even better - & still under 1/3 the price of the MP5.
They have been favorably compared to the Swiss B&T apc5. which the US military just bought.
Only mentioning this for others with absolutely no hope of affording the H&K or B&T.
I was not disappointed with the Stribog - nor were other owners I know. But I do not need or want full auto.
