Holster Trials

After the wilson experior commander fell out of my holster a few times last weekend, I decided to upgrade my leather. I ordered a few setups from each of the following: Kramer, Milt Sparks, Mitch Rosen, Kirpatrick, and Southern Trapper. In the process of ordering from Overland, and plan on an black lizard rig from Andrews. Will post time from order to delivery, initial impressions, and longer term results. I ordered a pancake, double mag holder, crossdraw and belt from each. Also fell for the bbq rig from kirpatrick and a shark setup from milt sparks. Mt needs change from day to day, if in a vehicle or seated for a long time I wear the crossdraw. I do not like iwb at all, everything is owb for me! At the prices I had to pay I hope some of these are ideal.

You will have almost as much $ in leather as you do in you gun! :D
That is too nice of a gun to have hitting the ground. Let us know which holster you like best.
If you ever change your mind about IWB the Milt Sparks line is great.
I am plain fascinated that your gun fell out of your holster, multiple times, in one weekend.
were you break-dance fighting?

Finally got the Overland order placed today, and also got a lizard rig ordered from Sam at Andrews. Really nice guy. Still waiting to hear back from Ronin, and trolling around to see if there is anything else I want. I have all the main colors and types of plain leather covered, a couple tooled and a couple exotics. anyone have a recommendation for a premium leather manufacturer that I havent covered?
Still finishing smithing a pair of ronin emps and tisas bantams but got the bug for some new iron. looking at the ed brown kobra carry and the les baer black baer. i should just get both, but it will take a long time to get them.
looking at tucker, and intrigued with the stoner stormer shoulder holster. anyone have any experience with either of these?
ordered a full tooled rig from rob at tucker. very personable. also talked to folks at stoner and order their vertical swiveling shoulder holster setup. might be all for now unless i go ahead and order an andrews monarch shoulder rig too. went ahead and ordered an ed brown kustom carry and a nighthawk bob marvel commander. too many choices! yes i talked to cabot but thats not until late next year...
just order a texas ranger hand carved duty rig from black hills. they said 6 week build! very friendly on the phone. they have some other western rigs that look good, and exotics. will see how the first rig turns out. ordered the alchemy prime elite commander in dlc. possibly sept/oct build!
I’ve ordered from Cardini leather an MTR. Both make great holsters. Both IWB or OWB. Good luck. I’m sure with the variety you ordered, you’ll find something you like. 👍😎
the mtr shrunken bison looks good. will call them tomorrow. thanks

Have a few Tuckers. IWB & OWB leather. No complaints.
Longish delivery time.....but you'll likely get them well ahead of anything you get from Sam Andrews....unless he has addressed how his orders are processed. Doesn't seem to be a FIFO system....and communication with whoever does his mailing/shipping seemed to be inconsistent and delayed. Again....he may have addressed all this.

Milt Sparks is my absolute favorite leather holster maker. They'll give you an accurate quote at the time the order is placed and it'll hold up. They are not a one-man show that will be delayed by flu, vacation, didn't feel like working, etc, etc. They will build it to spec and it'll be spot on.

I've never carried using a shoulder holster. I don't care for the muzzle sweep on drawing it.
I do have a Simply Rugged chest rig that works great for hunting...holds the revolver in a good spot that allows the shouldering of a rifle or shotgun. Comfortable seated, too. Not gonna conceal it, but not an issue when hunting.

so far ordered from 10 leather makers:
kramer
mitch rosen
milt sparks
kirkpatrick
southern trapper
andrews
overland
tucker
stoner
black hills
all required payment in full upfront except milt sparks, andrews and overland. Now the total $ is more than i paid for the wilson combat!

a couple of other possibilities:
ronin
mtr
blocker
lobo
everytime i think i am done i find something cool to order. Something tells me that there will be a difference in quality, delivery time, etc between all these makers!

Just so I can follow along.......you ordered all this leather for one gun ???

What were you carrying it in prior that had it falling out a few times ??

i carry 1911 commanders, have several but only carry one at a time.
was wearing a tooled usholster rig
i work in the gun industry and it befits me to wear upscale leather and guns
dissapointed with my experience with ronin. after some time he finally sent a quote and material color options. then he told me he was not a custom maker and would not make the holsters and belt for me as the "look" i wanted was different than his "look". other than color, material, gun fitment and belt size there was nothing "custom" about it. if specifying those constitutes custom, what does he do? oh well, on to mtr, blocker and palmetto. so far this is the only negative experience in ordering.
had to do it- ordered another lizard rig from andrews. The spring break vertical shoulder holster in black. Calling mtr monday to flesh out details for a shrunken buffalo setup. Then i'm done. Until...
lost track, but if you are keeping score, i am at 23 holsters and 11 belts, with 11 separate mag holders. This includes 2 shoulder holsters, 5 tooled and 5 exotic. Kinda got away from me. Think i need more guns now.

Since you are in the gun industry you would think some of these guys would be happy to extend you some consideration to some extent in purchasing their holsters. I have seen it done on the music scene with some of the guys who play professionally. They get some things gratis or at cost or significant discounts to play various instruments on stage. Great way to get their products noticed. Maybe you should work that angle if able to.

i have brought it up but only 2 have given a discount. I dont want anything free, but a price break is appreciated since its coming out of my pocket. Mostly i just want to he treated like everyone else. My experiences will no doubt influence others, and our company may carry some of these lines if they really stand out. Most of these are smaller shops and could use some positive word of mouth- if merited.
