Hold the magazine upright, depress the follower with a pencil until it is a few witness holes down, insert a pin (I use a nail) thru a set of witness holes below the follower (that will catch the spring), remove tension on the follower, shake the follower out, sometimes you may need to use a hook to pull it out, covering the opening of the magazine remove the nail and pull the spring out - - make sure you remember which way the spring faced while in the magazine. To re-assemble, put the spring back (facing the righ direction) depress it replace the nail, replace the follower (make sure its tail goes behind the spring, apply pressure on the follower with your pencil and remove the nail.

I like to gently grasp the follower with a needle nose pliers and wiggle it out. I put it back in with my fingers and slip the top loop of the spring over the nub with a little screwdriver.
