I think this is called "PLOP" It's an offer to take up to 36 months of basic benefits as a lump sum payment and still be able to retire with at least 25 years service credit. 24 months would be a new Harley, but the wife says "NO WAY!!" Maybe a REALLY NICE custom 1911...?

KN me too, I am also grandfathered as a LEO, even though I did attend a state certified academy. I became a cop before minimum standards was adopted in my state which was about 1970 or so. I have almost 27 years in the state police retirement system at present. I got out of law enforcement for a while and was going to get rich. Yea sure, and I did ok, but once a cop always a cop, so I came back to my first love. I plan on bailing out in 2004 and running for a city council seat in my city. I think that will be the perfect cap for a career, to go from being a cop to a politician.

Support Your Local Police

I entered police service in June 1972 and retired in July 1999 for a total of 27 years. When I started the JOB it was fun and when I retired it had ceased to be fun. All and All I would do it again. Police service is not for everyone but it is satisfing.
