Replace the rod it's cheap if you know where to find it

Edit: In the mean time a wipe with a soft cleaning cloth/patch should be fine until the sheathing becomes cracked and must be replaced.

A toothbrush and a little soap and water, or a little solvent like mineral spirits. Replacement is easy, but unless you can burn the end just right they tend to break fairly easy as well. Why replace what is not broken.

Hello: I use Simple green since it will not harm the plastic. It also works to clean the frame off really well. You have to make sure to oil it well after cleaning. Thanks Eric

I use Windex / glass cleaner on a Q-tip. Its my last step after cleaning & lubing.

Mild soap and water is fine...then put a little oil on it before going to the range next time. Helps make cleaning easy.
