I saw a Vickers gun!

I recently had the opportunity to see a gun that Larry Vickers customized. NO, it's not mine, and it's not for sale. Furthermore, if it comes up for sale, I WANT IT, so I'll keep the details quiet for now
.

The gun was a Colt combat commander, and the gun was parkerized. I'm not normally a fan of the parkerized finish, but this gun was beautiful! It had beautiful checkering on the frontstrap by Pete Single, Novak sights with a front tritium bead, and the most beautifully beveled mag well with a bevel into the bottom of the MSH. It had a novel cut in the anterior edge of the ejection port that I have not seen before. This gun was a class act all the way around. I'm on Larry's list, and seeing this gun makes the wait worthwhile.

Congrats. That must have been a great thrill.

How much did that particular gun cost?
I've been trying to find out how much a customized Colt by Vickers costs "before" he raises his prices as compared to the cost "after" he raises the prices.

He has already posted here that his prices would be dramatically higher after an article in AH hits the stands. He also alluded to an even longer waiting list.

Since you are on the Vickers list, can you fill in the details...especially the time frame, price and deposit.

I cannot find a website and e-mails go unanswered. Thanks in advance.

I would reckon that the cut you noticed on the front edge of the ejection port is what is typically called a "live round ejection relief". When fitted with the longer Commander-style ejectors, many 1911's will not be able to eject a live round of hardball out of the port. This becomes critical if a dud round is encountered in action.

Sorry, I don't know the original cost of this pistol, and it's currently not for sale. Roscoe, thanks for the info on the ejection port. My impression was that this was a cosmetically flawless, no-nonsense working piece built for serious action. A look at that gun makes the wait a little more tolerable

LEEMUTLEE,

I don't have a Vicker's price list, but Larry Vickers recently told me to start looking for a base gun in two years. Hope that helps on the time frame.

OKC My Vickers 45 [#3] has a forged out mag well..Could be the only one like it..The gun is parkerized and has digested many Ms of 45 and is still a great pistol! I'm shooting a 9mm Larry built me for IDPA now.
Mark 4 45--great to hear your experiences with your Vickers guns. I can hardly wait till I get the call from Larry--the gun I saw had attention to detail throughout and was fantastic!

Bob
Larry...Tried to call..haven't got a current number and the O" is at Wilsons With the Chief so no way to get number this PM...What's the prognosis on the 45 with the tapered slide serations???All this talk of escalating prices has me sweating! Still have the stickum pad on the wall from when you got the last pistol. Will the quote hold??? Let me know..Give a ring..Probably see you this summer at the Os!!

outa here
Novel cut on the front of the ejection port? Would that be like that ugly cut that Colt puts on the front so that a live round will eject easier?

JJ
I dropped Larry a line a few weeks ago to get on the list. He said that the line was 4 years and growing. I got in line just after the Vickers feature on American Handgunner
