Told my brother that I was looking for a GI 45. He said that he's got one that he will sell me. To make a long story short, I go over and he has a 1943 Colt Serial No 925XXX that has all the correct markings, correct barrel and even has the matching serial No. under the firing pin retainer. But... it's NICKLE PLATED! DAMN! I know that it is not collectible, but is there someone that can remove the nickle plating and re-parkerize it so that I can use it as a shooter and not be embarresed to be seen with it at the range? Please let me know if you know of anyone that can do this work.

Thanks,

Larry

Paying to have nickel plating stripped is costly, but most of the larger finishing shops can do it. My best recommendation would be the folks over at Evolution Gun Works http://www.egw-guns.com They can re-parkerize it afterwards.

Just tryin' to make the world a better place for neglected, abused GI M1911A1s.

BTW I fixed the link above. At first it went to a kiddie's books publishing company!

A chromed WWII 1911....ouch.

George Smith of Evol. Gun Works can usually be raised over on the gunsmithing forum. Good luck in bringing that back to 1940s condition.

Found a local refinisher who was recommended for good work. He stripped the nickle and reparkerized the Colt for $130. Turned out real nice. Now i've got a shooter grade GI that looks good for about half the cost of the new Colt reissue that I was tempted to buy. Unfortunately I still have the bug for a nice original USGI 45.

Does anyone have the shipping records for wartime Colt production? I would love to know when and where this gun was shipped. If anyone can do this I'll email you the serial number.

Thanks,

Larry
