Howdy all,

I'm a new shooter in the Dallas, Tx area and I'm looking for some info on the local IDPA sceen. Can anyone shed some light for me? I'd like to come and see some practices or matches if they are around so I can get an idea of what I'm getting into!

Thanks!

Go here, http://www.idpa.com/clubs/states/texas.htm .

This should get you started.

Also, the unofficial IDPA list, might have some info for you, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IDPA

Have fun, and welcome to the 1911Forum.

There are a few IDPA clubs near you. I am going to catch a match the next time Uncle Sam sends me down to Austin. There or San Antonio.

It looks as if there won’t be any IDPA clubs in my neck of the woods soon and I am going to have to travel out of state to shoot IDPA.

As John said, http://www.idpa.com has a bunch of info.

I contacted the local IDPA contact and asked for info. Here is what he emailed to me:

Dallas IDPA match info
Here is some basic information about the matches that we hold.
Where: Targetmasters indoor shooting center in Garland Texas.
Targetmasters is located at 1717 South Jupiter Road near the intersection
of Jupiter and Miller Road.
When: Every 1st , 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays. Shooter sign-in is from 6:00pm
to 6:30pm. Matches start promptly at 6:30pm.
Equipment: See www.idpa.com for specific equipment rules. The minimum
that you will need is a pistol of your choice, three magazines or speed
loaders, mag carriers for two magazines, some type of IDPA legal holster,
and 70 to 100 rounds of ammunition. If you are just getting started and
don’t have all of the equipment you need, don’t worry, just bring what
you have and we will work out a way for you to shoot the match.
Cost: Membership dues for the Dallas IDPA club are $20 per year. However
you don't have to become a member of our club to shoot at our matches.
Match fees are $4 for Members and $5 for non-members. The club match fee
is waived for anyone shooting a Dallas IDPA club match for the first
time. Also to shoot a match you will also have to pay the Targetmasters
range fee. Targetmasters charges $6 for members and $12 for non-members.
Individual memberships at Targetmasters are $75.
At a typical match we have shooters with a wide range of experience
levels. They range all the way from first timers to those with years of
competitive match experience. We like to think that we do a good job
catering to everyone. If you have any further questions just give us a
call or send an email.
