My split times are not real good. I shoot a P14-45 and am trying to develop better split times. Rather than burning thru a lot of ammo to do so should I use my Ruger 22 rather than my P14-45? I think I am pretty good about trigger reset, just a bit slow overall. Also, I was working on my split times today at about 8 yards. Should I start at 3 yards and then work my way out?

I agree with moving in closer. Start at 3 yds. At longer distances (to start), you may get frustrated with slow splits, AND poor accuracy. Moving in generally helps the accuracy part. Then you can truly concentrate on the speed part. Once you've got speed and accuracy at 3 yds. Move back to 4 yds. Rinse. Repeat.

I've found that "your body" need to become accustomed to your "combat gun's" trigger and recoil, to develop a sense of timing, largely based on recovery time (with defense ammo). You have to function "as one" with your handgun if you want to place really fast accurate shots (sorry if that sounds "Zen"). I agree to start at 3-4 yds, and work out, but I'd use my combat gun/ammo.
