I am looking to buy a Colt, but I am not sure if the frame is a factory frame.

Where should the inspector's marks be.?
Do all Colt's (1911s) have them?
Are they always in the same place?
Thanks!

Colt commercial models always have Colt's name and address on the frame.

Colt typically puts at least two marks on all their firearms.
On the Left front of the trigger guard is Colt's "Verified Proof". This is a tiny "VP" in a triangle.

On the Left rear of the trigger guard, is an inspectors stamp, usually a letter.

On military frames, you have to go by the serial number range and US Inspector's stamps, usually placed just below trhe magazine catch on the Left side.
