I want to put a new mag catch in my Kimber 1911. Do I need to tear the gun completely apart or can I just remove the mag and slide and go from there?

All will be reveiled if you click -> Removing Mag Catch.

It is easy to do and you don't have to remove slides, grip safeties, etc. to do it.

Just remember that the screw only turns 90 degrees. It does not unscrew all the way, like you would expect a traditional screw would.

I did it last night and it took longer to find the correct allen wrench than it did to make the change. After something like this, I continue to marvel at the genius of JMB.
