Want to talk about a great day? My CHL came in the mail the same day as Uncle George's rebate checks. (Too bad the plumber was there doing $500 worth of repairs to the kitchen sink, otherwise it woulda been *perfect*.)

The Texas Dept. of Public Safety deserves mucho kudos for their efficient handling of my application, as do the folks at Tac Pro Shooting Center for ensuring my application was done right the first time.

How long did it take? The application was received 5/14 and I got my CHL on 8/20.

Now I gotta go back to Tac Pro for a Primary Pistol class. Kewl.

El Roto, I hate to burst your bubble, but if your CHL application was received on 5/14 and you got the CHL on 8/20, Texas DPS did not process your application efficiently if you had all the correct informatoin on your application. DPS tries to approve CHLs within 60 days of application, but may go as many as 180 days if there are problems.

I live in Austin and it took 180 days to get mine. You know what, after a few months of 24/7 carry I can't even remember what it was like to wait for the darned thing to arrive.

As long as you have it, that's all that counts.

The defensive firearm is a special-purpose piece of safety rescue equipment, designed to extricate a person . . . from the immediate threat of savagely violent crime. It is like the fire extinguisher. . . . Neither piece of equipment will do you any good if you don't know how to use it or are not psychologically prepared to face danger with that gear in your trained hands in a terror situation.

I'm surprised someone from Vermont hasn't come along with some comment like:

Go to Gun Shop. Buy gun. Done Deal.

BTW, it took 47 days for me to get mine in Oregon 8 years ago. Most of that time was the FBI doing their background check. It only took the Sheriff 2 days IIRC. It was supposed to be a max. of 45 days.
