Hello All,
I have a JC Higgins Model 31 that I believe needs a new disconnecter assembly. It will fire the first round loaded fine and eject spent casing and load new round but it doesn't seem to move the assembly back far enough to re-cock it. I realize this is a long shot but does anyone have a source for these or perhaps an old parts rifle around? I have spent hours scouring the web to no avail and hate to put this classic up as a decorative display while the squirrels celebrate its demise.

It may not be the disconnecter, it may be the sear or hammer.
When a firearm fails to reset, it's often a fouled, worn, or damaged hammer or sear that's failing to operate correctly, not a disconnecter.

Gun Parts Corporation shows a disconnecter as "Out of stock".
However... if you click on the tiny picture of the disconnector it will show as larger picture. Possibly this will tell you if something is wrong with the disconnecter.
Worse comes to worse, a good gunsmith can usually rebuild something like this by cutting and welding a new section or welding up a worn area.

Here's places you can try. You'll need to email or actually call for availability since they often have parts no on a web site:

Top parts house, gotta call.

Call.
