Hi everyone! I just sent payment for a Dan Wesson Specialist in black. Seller claims 60rds down the pipe and in mint condition. Paid $1600 shipped with 3 mags and a Safariland Holster, so I think I got a fair price. Very excited and already have a Surefire X300 Ultra in hand and a Bravo Concealment RTT holster on order. I've heard nothing but good things about the Specialist so I am very excited to wring it out.

You guys were right! I like this pistol more than the TRP's I have handled....probably will get to shoot her tomorrow.

Has anyone had a problem with the ambi? It disengages fine on the righty safety, but the south paw safety catches and doesn't disengage 100% of the time. If you think the safety is off, pull the trigger, but realize that the safety is still on....when you press on the safety, the hammer drops.

How is DW customer service....do you have to ship on your dime?

The design of the ambi is prone to that. You can tighten up the tongue/groove joint of the two parts, and work with the grip panel to retain it better. Or deal with it, or replace the part with one that won't separate... Wilson Bulletproof, Nighthawk, Kings, Kimber.

Congratulations on the Specialist! The ambi seems to be the weak link in this fine pistol. The tongue/groove on mine did not seat well which caused the safety to not set flush on the frame. I replaced it with a WC single side safety. I'm not a fan of the ambi anyway. I'm not a southpaw. Other than that, it's good to go. I have a Surefire x300 on mine, but no holster yet. Please let us know how you like the Bravo Concealment RTT holster.

I had this issue with the safety also when the pistol was new. After cycling it a few hundred times it's no longer an issue. Contemplated changing out the safety, but decided that since the Specialist isn't my ccw I'd see if it would clear up after some range use. It did. You will thoroughly enjoy this pistol.
