I don't think Kimber would go to the expense of manufacturing a new frame for the 9mm. I had a Stainless II .38 Super, and it's frame (which is also used by the 9mm) was different than the .45 frame. Probably the same frame as the .45, but like you said, it's machined different. The area where the feedramp fed into the barrel's throat was cut completely different. I was told (by Kimber) that the 9mm/.38 Super frames were not inerchangable with the .45 frames and slides. So, I guess that this frame is what you are asking about. I'm not sure if Kimber is making an aluminum frame.
