Kimber Guide Rod Question

2072 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Sundance
I really like my new Kimber Classic Custom but I hate what you have to do to take it down. Is it possible to exchange the full length guide rod set up for a normal 1911 spring plunger setup? I want to be able to easily take it down without a barrel wrench.

Thanks,

Yes, it is very simple to exchange the full length guide rod for the short guide and plug. It is a simple drop in/no gunsmithing required process. On the otherhand, if the only reason you are doing it is for ease of takedown, get inventive. I have used countless items to substitute for my bushing wrench when I temporarily loose it from time to time. My favorite improvision was the empty .45 brass. I have even used my bare hands, although it was a bit uncomfortable.
