i'm looking at buying a pistol next year (early next year) and i've looked at a few models, i guess its good i don't have the money right away else i would have just bought the first thing in front of me, now i have lots of time to research. ok, i want a colt 1991a1 stainless steel, and i want the trigger from wilson's KZ-45 and i need an ambidexterous safety. how would i go to my gun shop and ask for this? i see numbers on the wilson site for the trigger, but whats the company that makes it. i need to be able to go to the shop and say "I want a COLT 1991A1 with a _____ trigger, and a *insert company here* ambidexterous safety. can anyone help me out?

You really can't. What you do is buy the gun from a dealer, buy the parts from Brownells, and have a local gunsmith install the parts for you.

ranger,
a thought: after you make your purchase, shoot your pistol for a while, a least 1,000 rounds, if you have the time. you might find out that what you thought was a 'need' is really just a 'want'. nothing wrong with a want, but most work that has to be hand-fitted by a good pistolsmith is not easily undone should you later decide that the 'want' has turned out to be an 'un-want'.
i shot my last 1991 stainless for a year, thinking of how it felt, (comparing it to modified pistols) before reaching a final decision on modifications. i 'saved' some $$ and did fewer unalterable modifications as a result.

Park_Ranger,

I'm pretty sure the trigger in the KZ-45 is actually made by Wilson Combat in house. I've ordered that exact one and installed it, but it had WAY too much play in it. This is because it's designed to be a drop-in trigger, which is machined small enough to fit easily into any gun without interference. If you just want an aluminum three-holer, there are other companies out there that sell them. Check Brownells, like DSK said. Chip McCormick has the least expensve ambi-safeties @ about $30. But the easiest way to do this is to simply call Colt's custom shop and tell them what you want. They'll do it, but I would expect a trigger and an ambi safety from them could run an extra $150-$200.
