S&W Model 65, 357 Mag police issue gun.
Then a S&W 586, 357 Mag personal bought duty gun.
and a small S&W snub nose 38 special as a backup. It had a hammer shroud on it.
I also carried a Remington 870 pump 12 gauge shotgun too.
The department later was trying out some limited number of semi-auto's for duty, but the officers had to buy them, they didn't issue them at the time. Only S&W semi-autos were approved at the time.

Issued a Smith Model 64 out of the chute in 1990, .38 Special. We were one of the last to convert to semi autos in the Metro area.

Three years later a Smith 4026 (with stolen Sig style decocker, the lawsuit which Smith lost and we were looking for guns again after only 2 years).

Carried the 4026 until 2000 when the department finally authorized Glock.
G22 then
G27 for admin and now
G23 with G22 extra mags back on patrol.

If I could pick (I can't) I would be very interested in a Sig P320 for duty use.

Each time the dept. upgraded we were allowed to purchase the duty guns.

I guess it all comes back around to where you started. Started with a Sig 226 (9MM) and then transitioned to the 220 (45 ACP) after about a year, nothing can compete with the 45 right. Briefly carried a Sig 226R (40 S&W) until it didn't do what I thought it should, went back to the trusty 220. About 12 years ago certain 1911's were approved for carry and I have carried a couple of different ones during that time. About 9 months ago I purchased a Range Officer Compact (9MM) and sent it to SACS for some work, it has been my primary carry since returning. I've noticed that a lot of range time shooting the 45 ACP has taken a toll on my elbows and would rather be able to continue my training schedule so I am pretty much back to the 9MM. The ROC works well for me in a Milt Sparks Criterion, I haven't worn a uniform in about 15 years. I recently purchased one of the Springfield Combat Operators in 9 also, working it into the mix. While I still think the 45 is a great round I am confident in the 9 also. I also like the fact I can train and continue to do other things afterwards.
