I've got some 9mm Frontier 124gr. CMJ Cast bullets that I want to load
using Win 231 Powder.
I'm not sure if I should use 124gr. lead bullet data or FMJ data.
I am thinking lead data.
Am I correct?
One of the tables for lead 124gr. with Win 231 states a starting load of 3.3gr.
All input appreciated.

I've loaded thousands of these bullets. Pretty unique in that they are hard cast vice swaged lead like most plated.

Having said that, I've loaded them anywhere from hot with WSF or Power pistol (1200+ fps), to mild with Titegroup (1050-1100 fps).

Need to seat them out to 1.125 as they are fairly short and may not feed well if loaded too short. This OAL still allows for plenty of bearing surface for case neck tension.

Cannot provide any input on the 231 as I don't use it. Sounds like a very mild load in any regard.

Thanks for the help gentlemen.
The 3.5gr as a starting load sounds right WESHOOT2.
I'm going to start there.
Thanks again.
I'll let you know how it works out.

I have a similarly related question so I'll add it on here..

What OAL should I be using with a 125gr LRN bullet. The spec calls for 1.09", which is really short and I'm having some intermittent feed problems. I'm thinking the should be as long as I can get them and still feed out of the magazine and also have good neck tension..

I load mine @ 1.130. Works well in my Glock 17 and Glock 34.

Based on bullet 'shoulder'

I have 121, 123, 124, 125, and 131g LRN bullets.

I use an OAL of 1.135--1.155", based on how far the 'shoulder' of the bullet extends past the case mouth.
I want no trouble fully chambering a round.

So I normally go to an OAL around 1.140" for initial testing.

I loaded up some 124gr. plated with 3.5gr of Win231
and hit the range.
I had 1 failure out of a 100 rds...slide not locking back on last round.
I think I will try 3.7gr.
Thanks for helping me out WESHOOT2

welcome

Might step that up to 3.8g.

Suggest not making millions until reliable function is CONFIRMED (learnt hard way).
